QIJIA STONE · FINISH SELECTION

Granite Finishes & Fabrication Guide

Finish names describe a process or appearance—not a verified performance rating. Use this guide to shortlist an option, then confirm the material, sample, visible faces, required testing and order scope with your fabricator.

The Qijia catalogue lists the 16 options below. Not every process is suitable for every stone or component; availability and result must be confirmed for the actual order.

Sixteen options in the Qijia catalogue

  1. 01

    Polished

Grinding and polishing create a higher sheen. Mineral contrast and colour vary by stone, so approve a sample of the proposed material.

  2. 02

    Flamed

A thermal process can create a rougher texture on suitable granite. Confirm material suitability and the sample appearance first.

  3. 03

    Bush-hammered

Impact tooling creates a dimpled texture. Agree the texture density, direction and treated area using a sample.

  4. 04

    Tumbled

Tumbling can soften the surface or edges for a more weathered look. Specify which faces and edges are included.

  5. 05

    Brushed

Brushing develops a softened texture and sheen. The result depends on the stone's mineral grain and starting surface.

  6. 06

    Honed

Honing produces a smoother, lower-sheen appearance. Compare it beside a polished sample to agree sheen and tone.

  7. 07

    Split

A split face is typically uneven and textured. Identify the face, finished thickness and acceptable variation.

  8. 08

    Machine-cut

A machine-cut face may show directional saw marks. State the cut direction, visible faces and any further treatment.

  9. 09

    Natural

A natural face retains irregular stone character. Use a sample to agree which faces and edges remain and how much variation is acceptable.

  10. 10

    Sandblasted

Abrasive blasting creates a matte or granular appearance. Agree texture consistency and coverage on a sample.

  11. 11

    Acid-washed

The process and result can vary with the stone and treatment. Test a small sample and agree cleaning and protection requirements.

  12. 12

    Combed

For a combed texture, mark the direction, spacing, depth and treated area on the drawing or sample.

  13. 13

    Leathered

Often developed by brushing a honed surface for subtle relief and a soft sheen. The result varies by stone.

  14. 14

    Waterjet-cut

Used to cut drawn profiles or shaped components. Provide dimensioned drawings and revision details, then confirm feasibility.

  15. 15

    Filled

If pits or voids are filled, agree the filling material, colour, coverage and appearance on visible faces.

  16. 16

    Chiseled

Chiselling creates worked texture or edge detail. Mark the area and direction, then approve a sample.

Turn a finish name into a clear specification

  1. Identify every face

Mark the finish for each exposed face and edge on the drawing or piece schedule. Separate different treatments on the same component.

  2. Approve a relevant sample

Compare the proposed stone and finish together under suitable project lighting. Record which material, batch and surfaces the sample represents.

  3. State performance requirements

If a project requires slip resistance or another measured property, name the test method and acceptance criteria. A finish label or photograph is not test evidence.

  4. Define the fabrication scope

For shaped work, include dimensions, profiles, quantities, drawing revision, tolerances, filling or carving areas, packing and destination.

Questions buyers ask about granite finishes

Can every finish be applied to every granite?

No. Stone composition, component geometry, thickness and available tooling affect feasibility and appearance. Confirm the selected combination with the fabricator and a representative sample.

Does a flamed or textured finish guarantee slip resistance?

No. The finish name identifies a process or appearance, not a measured safety rating. Specify the relevant test and acceptance criteria for the project and request evidence for the proposed stone and finish.

How should I compare finish samples?

Compare the same stone reference and, where possible, the proposed batch. Review the actual visible face and edge, agree the acceptable appearance range, and record the sample approval with the order.

What should I send for waterjet-cut or chiselled components?

Send dimensioned drawings showing the profile, critical dimensions, quantity and drawing revision. Mark treated faces and edges, tolerances and any areas requiring filling or carving; confirm feasibility before production.

Need to confirm a stone and finish combination?

Share the stone reference, application, drawing and sample requirements. Qijia Stone can review the requested scope and confirm order-specific feasibility and quotation details.
